Our Goals |

The overall Goals of AIS are compliant with the UN Millennium Development Goals No. 1,3,6,7 and 8.
Reduce unemployment, poverty, socio-economic inequity, among youth and families in disadvantaged coastal and rural communities of the Auroville Bioregion. Raise employability of the youth of both gender and empower them to take part in the economic growth of India, through providing training in modern profession at reasonable cost.
• To be self-sufficient
• Increase the chances of the young people of the Auroville Bioregion to get a qualified and well paid job, create their own business or go for higher studies.
• Improve the life-perspective of the rural youth of the Auroville Bioregion, through adequate life skills, self confidence, social- and environmental awareness.
• Strengthen the position of young women within their family and community, through self confidence and skills. |

Our Stategy |

• We provide high quality practice-oriented skill training and life-education.
• We work on a non-profit basis.
• We keep our course fee very low and affordable for our target group, the rural youth from the poorest families (around one third of the course fee of a private institute).
• We emphasise the promotion of young women through women-oriented courses, scholarships, discounts, etc.
• We are aiming to achieve 100% sustainability through an additional-income-generation-program and a higher number of students (economy of scale).
• We will expand the school in reasonable phases to a number of about 1000 Students and around 12 trades within the next 6 years.
• We will become the human resource development hub for the Auroville Bioregion and be an agent for technology know-how-transfer to the villagers and NGO’s.
• We maintain a strong cooperation with the local industry, providing in-plant training, apprenticeships, job opportunities, etc. |

Ais : A Success Story |

Auroville Industrial School began in 2005 with 23 Students. The Tamil Nadu Government recognized our Industrial Training (SCVT) initially in four trades, (Computer Software, Hardware Maintenance, General Electronics and Secretarial Studies). In our third year we have now admitted 80 Students in four trades.
In 2006-2007 AIS ranked first among all Industrial Schools in Tamil Nadu in the trade Computer Hardware and 2nd in Data Processing and Computer Applications (DPCA). For More Details to News&Events |
